MY4th OF JULY--WHEN I WAS GROWING UP

THE BEST DAYS ARE REMEMBERING MY GROWING UP DAYS---WE RAISED OUR OWN FOOD AND I MEAN ALL OF IT...ON THE 4TH JULY MY MOM ALWAYS KILLED 2 CHICKENS AND YES I HAD TO PLUCK FEATHERS AND HELP WITH THE COOKING....I REMEMBER SO WELL MY DAD WOULD GO INTO TO PIEDMONT AND GET A 25 POUND BLOCK OF ICE...BY THE TIME HE GOT BACK MOM WOULD HAVE THE ICE CREAM READY TO GO IN THE HAND CRANK FREEZER---WE HAD TO CHIP THE ICE WITH ICE PICK TO MAKE IT FIT AROUND THE FREEZER....SO WAS A LAYER OF ICE AND THEN SPRINKLE SOME SALT AS THIS MADE THE ICE CREAM FREEZER FASTER..WAS SO VERY GOOD...I CAN TASTE IT NOW WITH FRESH EGGS,MILK FROM OUR OLD COW,SWEETENDED JUST RIGHT WITH A DASH OF VANILLA EXTRACT---OH SO GOOD...THE DAYS SEEMED SO LONG BACK IN THOSE DAYS---WE RAN AND PLAYED ALL DAY AND MY BROTHER FREDDIE WOULD HAVE 4 OR 5 PACKS OF FIRECRACKERS THAT HE WOULD SHOOT OFF...SUCH A SIMPLE TIME AND EASY LIVING-----

Looking out my kitchen window day before yesterday, i snapped this picture on my humming bird feeder....did you know they like sugar water and that you can buy feeders for them...i also filled my finch feeder and this morning i seen the yellow and blue one in the yard--love my wild life--squirrels,bunny rabbits and all kinds of birds....guess its because we live so close to the lake..

First of all i'm old==72
was born November 16,1935
Lived in St. Louis County for a short time
Mom and Dad moved to country -Reynolds county-
Lived there until i was six years old-
Started school in Van Buren,Mo.
only there a short time and Dad moved us to Wayne County
i started school and went to a oneroom school called Dale
it was from the first through eight grade-lots of good fun there
kinda like little house -lol-had an old ouside toliet-
then Dale school consolidated with Piedmont-where i went until i Graduated in 1954
to be contuined--
